Fireproofing

American Concrete Services works and partners with Monokote, one of the top 3 suppliers in the country, for fireproofing material. Fireproofing helps protect industrial buildings from fire and is sprayed on floors, ceilings, steel studs, and many other things.

Intumescent Paint

  • Intumescent paint works similarly to cementitious fireproofing. It is sprayed as a thin layer to the steel and it also has a watertight seal, preventing corrosion of the metal. When more layers are sprayed, it takes a longer time to burn the paint in the case of a fire. If a fire were to occur, the heat reacts with the paint, and it swells up to protect the steel underneath. Intumescent paint is easier to apply than cementitious paint and appears better if the beams are staying exposed for decorating purposes as well.
    • Fireproofing doesn’t extinguish the fire but it helps hold the integrity of the building for as long as possible. This is because no material is completely fireproof. Fireproofing is necessary for large buildings such as warehouses and skyscrapers to slow down the potential burn time during a fire.
