When a flag is no longer fit to fly, it deserves a proper farewell—just like the heroes it honors.
Retiring the American Flag is a sacred, patriotic duty that every American can take part in. Whether you are the one conducting the ceremony or passing the flag on for proper retirement, this act is a powerful expression of respect.
At American Concrete Services we are proud to carry out this duty. We are operated by Tyler Mundrick, a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served in the nation’s oldest active infantry regiment – The Old Guard. As the Army’s official Ceremonial Unit, The Old Guard honors fallen service members with dignity, honor, and deep respect, laying them to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. We bring that same level of respect with every flag we retire.
What the Flag Means
The American Flag is more than just fabric – it is a powerful symbol of sacrifice, freedom, and unity. It’s the flag that’s draped over the caskets of our fallen heroes, carefully folded, and presented to grieving families in a final act of honor. That same symbol deserves a dignified farewell when it's no longer in a condition to be displayed.
Our Process
When your flag has reached the end of its serviceable life, our team will collect it and provide you with a new one in return. Once we have your flag, we perform a formal retirement process in accordance with Department of Defense guidelines which include:
1. Respectfully folded (as condition allows)
2. Saluted by all present
3. Honored with the playing of taps
4. Burned in a ceremonial fire
5. Bury the ashes in the earth
Each step is done with the highest level of care—because that’s what the flag deserves. Please help us celebrate the patriotism in this country and allow us to retire your flag.
